Job Summary
The Mechanical Engineer (QA/QC) is responsible for ensuring that all mechanical engineering works comply with project specifications, industry standards, and quality requirements. This role involves inspecting, testing, and supervising mechanical installations, as well as coordinating with stakeholders to maintain quality control throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Assurance & Quality Control
Develop and implement QA/QC procedures and inspection test plans (ITP) for mechanical systems.
Conduct inspections, tests, and audits to ensure compliance with project specifications and international standards (ASME, ASTM, API, ISO, etc.).
Monitor the quality of materials, fabrication, and installation of mechanical equipment.
Review and verify material test certificates (MTC) and method statements.
Ensure proper documentation of quality control reports, NCRs (Non- Conformance Reports), and corrective actions.
Inspection & Testing
Perform stage- wise inspections of mechanical works, including piping, welding, HVAC, and rotating/static equipment.
Conduct pressure tests, leak tests, NDT (Non- Destructive Testing), and functional performance tests.
Verify and witness calibration of mechanical testing instruments.
Ensure welding procedures and welder qualifications comply with project requirements.
Coordination & Compliance
Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and third- party inspectors for quality control activities.
Assist in the resolution of technical and quality- related issues on- site.
Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards.
Participate in quality audits and risk assessments.
Reporting & Documentation
Prepare QA/QC reports, inspection reports, and compliance documentation.
Maintain updated records of test results, deviations, and corrective measures.
Support the preparation of final quality dossiers for project handover.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
3.5 years of experience in QA/QC roles within industries like Oil & Gas, Power Plants, Construction, or Manufacturing.
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of mechanical codes & standards (ASME, API, ISO, ASTM).
Proficiency in inspection techniques & testing methods (NDT, hydrostatic testing, welding inspections).
Experience with QA/QC documentation and quality management systems (QMS).
Familiarity with ISO 9001: 2015 and related quality standards.
Soft Skills
Strong analytical and problem- solving abilities.
Excellent communication and report- writing skills.
Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
Certifications (Preferred but not mandatory)
AWS CWI (Certified Welding Inspector)
ASNT Level II/III (Non- Destructive Testing)
ISO 9001 Lead Auditor
API 570/510/653 (Pressure Vessel & Piping Inspection)
Work Environment & Conditions
Work at construction sites, fabrication shops, or industrial plants.
May require travel and working in extreme environmental conditions.
Must follow safety guidelines and wear required PPE.
